The dark circles under the eyes usually appear due to sleeplessness or a decrease in the levels of vitamin K. Almost everybody will go through having dark circles around the eyes sometime in their life. Dark circles can be frustrating for those who are concerned for their looks because it makes a person appear much older.

Dark circles can be caused by a variety of reasons. For most people its hereditary and is caused by the blood vessels under the thin skin round the eyes. Other reasons include allergies, medication, anemia, fatigue, sleeplessness.

Below are some home remedies to diffuse the dark color around the eyes.

  1. Make sure you get enough water. All body toxics and oxidants will come out and leaver your body if you drink enough water. This will lighten the dark circles around the eye. You should aim for 3 liters of water daily.
  2. Before going to sleep, apply an eye moisturizing cream around the eyes and over the dark areas for a minimum of 15 minutes. If you want to use home products, you can use almond oil and/or honey instead. Massage the cream for a good 5 minutes to encourage blood circulation. Make sure the moisturizer contains Vitamin K, Vitamin E, and caffeine.
  3. Use cotton balls soaked with cold water or milk and apply them to the dark circles for 10 minutes on daily basis. A pair of tea bags soaked with cold water works also.
  4. Bring a fresh cucumber and cut two thin slices and place them on your eyes for 20 minutes. A this slice of potato can be used also.
  5. Wear sun glasses when you’re out and avoid exposing your eyes to the sun.
